Matter and Sensation
Wayne Sleeth (born in England, 1966) is an international artist in every sense – of Anglo-Belgian descent, he has been consolidating a european profile from his base in France since 2001, and has individual clients as far afield as Iceland and Switzerland.
Represented by a new generation of galleries for France and the UK (see further...) his work is charged with both rigor and poetry. A leitmotif , the horizon, permeates most of his canvases, whether it be that of his native Lincolnshire or the polderland of maternal Flanders, with ground and sky (the rigorous and the poetic, as in his seascapes) endlessly reconfigured in paint.
As often as the brush, he uses tools of the family trade – the knife and even the trowel – to work the painted surface, insisting on the physical and the humble, hands-on nature of being an artist, notions which are generally overlooked or ignored. What is paramount in his compositions, even in the most ‘abstract’, is his attachment to what is ‘real’ ; to matter and sensation.
This web site is a showcase for various examples of the artist’s output, intentionally varied and subject to revision.
All visitor’s enquiries and remarks, and requests to be added to a mailing-list for future exhibitions and events, are welcome by email to studio@waynesleeth.com
